‘Everybody should try. I made the crucial decision to have a go whatever it took. I would regret most if I hadn’t tried to open a pastry shop.’

Wedding cakes from Lopare

In the small Ruža’s pastry shop, sweet, edible masterpieces are produced day and night. Unusual golden cakes, cartoon characters, tree or truck-shaped cakes, creamy fruit cubes and chocolate balls – all that is made in Ruža’s kitchen is sold out in a day.

She used to make cakes and cookies to order for years – at first for her family and relatives, expanding her offer to friends and acquaintances.  Her sweet creations were highly praised, recommended and increasingly ordered, which encouraged her to register the business and open the pastry shop last year. In the meantime, this hard-working woman from Lopare mastered the techniques of making and decorating sweets with fondant figures. She met some pastry master chefs in Belgrade who taught her how to make fondant flowers and figures. ‘I can make of fondant anything you imagine. The most popular figures are ‘Paws in Patrol’ and princesses for little girls. However, children’s imagination and wishes are always different and fairy tale-like, Ruža says.

This entrepreneur took part in YEP Incubator and her creativity easily got all the necessary support. However, the most important support came from her sons and husband. Her advice for all those who want to set up their own business but aren’t brave enough is:

‘Everybody should try. I made the crucial decision to have a go whatever it takes. Making cakes and cookies to order has already been a part of my life or six years and this move has been a logical step forward. I would regret most if I hadn’t tried to open a pastry shop’, Ruža concludes.
